So, after being wrongly implicated in an arms drugs raid, I was taken to Newark Police Station where I was beaten, abused, and subjected to 54 hours of horror. Remanded to Lincoln Prison, subsequently bailed, but under the strictest of bail conditions. After four months going through the judicial system, all charges against me were thrown out in the Crown Court. We decided to sue for damages from Nottinghamshire Police – We were informed that I needed Psychological assessments to ascertain how much damage had been done. These are extracts from the Medical Expert Witness Report that Dr Medley produced, and was supposed to support my claim – Judge for yourself
1.Complicated & lengthy previous history to unravel and significant pre existing psychiatric problems that are apparent mainly through the background evidence rather than Mr Camidges history which is selective and inconsistent
2. History, to begin with, strongly suggest an element of personality disorder. For some reasons linked to his upbringing, he probably showed conduct disorder as a child which developed into a degree of anti social and impulsive disorder traits as he became older.
3. Poor work record
4. Difficulty with authority figures and difficulty sustaining relationships.
5.Problems with containing anger were noted.
6. As the years progressed, he has shown traits more typical of the paranoid/Narcissistic category of personality, with a tendency to see him as the victim.
7. Dysfunctional personality traits is a long recurrent history of depression and anxiety.
8. Limited response to medication.
9. Exacerbation of the depression & anxiety over this period of time. He was seen quite soon afterwards by CMHT & consultant, but at that point, despite a detailed examination, there was no specific mention of his experiences at the Police Station. Subsequently, the PTSD has assumed more prominence to a co – morbid diagnosis of PTSD.
10. Much of what he describes is actually based on a ruminative preoccupation with perceived injustice, rather than intrusive flashback experiences.
11. I understand from the response to the original complaint that his actual arrest and detention were regarded as lawful by Pace Criteria.
12. These feelings were heightened by the lack and intimidating attitude of the custody officers increased his fears and sense of isolation.
13. Never the less, in the longer term, however commodious the custody environment and whatever the attitude of the custody officers, although this may have given some reassurance and comfort at the time and alleviated some of his distress.
14. Given the complexity and length of this case, his personality, and refractory symptoms in the past, a cautious prognosis is indicated.
15. However, for the reasons outlined above, the therapist should be mindful of the extensive background and dysfunctional personality traits, which is likely to prove an impediment to straight forward CBT
I have responded to this report from Dr Medley in my book “Will the Guilty all Rise Par Two The ABC of Police Corruption and Beyond” – In my opinion, this Doctor, a Psychiatrist, who is supposed to treat and support people with mental health issues, has done nothing more than betray his profession by being inaccurate and untruthful.
