My Story
I had a fledgling removal business, and to promote this I had left some business cards at a local tyre company where I knew the owner. I got a call to carry out a house removal – this turned out to be an armed drugs deal. Masked men jumped into my van and ordered me to drive.
Very soon, the van was stopped by armed Police, and as I had the robbers in my van – we all were arrested and taken to Newark Police Station in Nottinghamshire. What followed, was 54 hours of abuse, torment, physical violence and much more. You can only imagine the state I was in, and, I was told that I was looking at 10 years in prison (for something I knew nothing about) I was charged, put before a Magistrate, and remanded to Lincoln Prison.
I have written two books about everything that happened – especially part two, which documents the attempt by the authorities to deny what their custody officers had done, and these books will be added at a later date. Anyhow, eventually, all charges were dropped, and a Police Standards Directorate investigation took place.
Three custody officers accepted a deal from PSD if they admitted one overall charge of misconduct. So with this in hand we decided to sue – and for this I needed to have psychiatric assessments to see what damage the custody officers had done. So, after two years, our solicitors at the time, decided to finally act as our legal advisors. My first psychiatric assessment went very smoothly, but the Police refused to accept this report, and wanted their own “expert” to act on their behalf.
This person was no other than Dr Neil Holden, who, we were informed, was the leading expert in the mental health field, and who had vast experience with working with ex military and many others.
The only problem is that due to his position, we would have to wait to see him – and when I say wait, I mean, we had to wait. So, in an attempt to bring my case to a close, we made the fateful decision to commission our own second medical expert – the infamous Dr Ian Medley.
