This writing business takes up an awful lot of time.
I am in the middle of doing research on dodgy Psychiatrists and their understanding and implementation of the ” Hippocratic Code” (don’t worry, I will enlighten you about this in one of my future posts) – when I am side-lined by yet another issue.
I don’t know if you are all aware, but I had a fledging removal business. I took a booking that turned out to be a violent armed drugs deal.
So, as I was there, all be it, on a totally different footing to what I had been hired for, I was arrested, taken to Newark Custody Suite where I was subjected to 54 hours of both physical and mental abuse at the hands of the Custody Staff ( I think that in their eyes they had just arrested the next main crime Lord in Nottingham and they were going to make me suffer – which they did)
Cutting a long story short, after four months, the Crown realised their mistake, and the charges of false imprisonment and robbery were thrown out. They had realised that I was an innocent man who had become unwittingly embroiled in this serious crime.
The Newark Advertiser, in their wisdom, had, at the time, made the decision to report and publish that everyone “involved” was remanded to Lincoln Prison. For the record, they will probably try to say that this was done in the public interest.
My point is that if you are going to report on serious cases like this ( I had been told that I was looking at 10 years in prison for this) – then at least see it through to the conclusion.
The Newark Advertiser, in their haste, published my name and address, which in itself, placed my family in danger to the point where we had to accept Police protection and where on priority 999.
But, their failure to report on, and publish that I was indeed innocent has had a detrimental effect on our lives and our privacy – at the very least, they were negligent.
It is now clear why friends that we had when we lived in Averham, and the boating community from Kings Marina at Newark have disowned us. We were also ostracised by many of the people in our village to the point where we had to move away for a fresh start.
There is an old saying – there is not smoke without fire – so what are the readers of this Newspaper supposed to think?……am I still involved, or part of that violent armed drugs gang?
This article continues to be “live” on the Advertisers website – NINE years since the event. Who knows what untold damage that this has caused – and yet I continue to be punished for doing nothing.
So I have decided to report them to the Independent press standards organisation – and these are the complaints about the Newark Advertiser that I will lodge.
1. I believe that your partial reporting fell below professional standards
2. This led to inaccurate and misleading opinions.
3. You have had nine years to investigate, report and publish the truth.
4. My case was not reported fairly and accurately.
5. Poor reporting contributed to detrimental effect on my family life.
6. The public interest would have been better served if they had been made aware of the atrocities at the Custody Suite.
7. Protecting the public from being misled by an action or statement of an individual or organisation.
8. Public interest – your failure to disclose a miscarriage of justice.
9. Raising or contributing to a matter of public debate, including serious cases of impropriety, unethical conduct, or incompetence concerning the public.
10. The regulator will consider the extent to which is already in the public domain or will become so.
I have contacted Head of News at the Newark Advertiser Dan Churcher, who happens to the same reporter who was involved with the original publication.
We have arranged a meeting at 11am on 04/09/2018 at their Headquarters Units 9 & 10 Halifax Court, Fernwood Business Park, Crossland, Fernwood Newark NG24 3JP
I will insist that they immediately remove this, and any other articles concerning this case.
I will expect a formal written apology – AND I will be seeking a sensible damages offer to prevent this issue being escalated. I will update you on the outcome of this meeting – there comes a time when you have to stand up for yourself in this world.
Well, back at home, very tired and not feeling well at all. – I think that the meeting with Mr Churcher at the Newark Advertiser HQ went as well as could be expected.
He asked if what was discussed at the meeting can remain private, at least for the time being – to which I agreed.
There was one point where I believe that I was being “advised” on what content I could “safely” post on my web site regarding Mr Churcher and/or the Newark Advertiser – but, I am fully aware of what the effects of posting incorrect or incomplete news or stories can have.
I left the meeting giving the Advertiser the opportunity to make things right – I will update you further in the next two weeks.
