Cause v Cure

I have just received  my Men’s Health & Wellbeing course Certificate – I have already forgotten what I received an earlier certificate for.

I think that I understand the need for the Recovery College to run these courses, the tutors are absolutely fantastic with their delivery and passion, BUT, and by no fault of the tutors – I believe that there is something missing.

The way I look at things is – you cannot look for a cure to your mental illness without fully realising, and dealing with the cause. Its like putting a plaster over a festering wound, and hoping that it will get better.

I had a quick chat with one of the tutors, Ian, about how I had become so damaged, and he arranged for me to speak to the Manager of the Recovery College – I will add her name when I remember what she said it was.

I explained that I didn’t want to go on to be a peer tutor myself as I felt that this would be putting too much pressure on myself BUT, I have offered to speak about my experiences to any future “students” if this will help in anyway.

It may be just my paranoia, but I sensed a sharp intake of breath when I revelled that it was two of her fellow medical experts (Drs Medley & Holden) that had betrayed me when I needed them the most.

This has caused so much distress and anxiety – so many sleepless nights – with me wondering WHY.

Because of the “conflict of interests”- I feel that my offer will be politely refused.

I may be wrong, but that was the impression that I felt – but if one doesn’t stand up and challenge the way the way that we, as ordinary people, are treated by individuals that are supposed to “help us” – then what does the future hold?

Perhaps, the Doctors pursuit of money has overtaken their legal, medical, and moral obligations.
